Stokes County, NC is a hotbed of traditional bluegrass and old time music that has been celebrated and passed down from one generation to another by community members. In the same spirit, the Stokes County Arts Council is carrying on the tradition with their youth music program.
Students ages 8-12 have the opportunity to learn traditional instruments such as guitar, fiddle, banjo, mandolin, and bass in classes across Stokes County. This is part of a music program offered by the Stokes County Arts Council named Stokes Junior Mountain Music.
The program, funded in partnership with the North Carolina Arts Council’s TAPS programs, offers low cost group music instruction to 3rd – 7th grade students in Stokes County. Lessons are held on a weekly basis at The Arts Place in Danbury and Dogwood Event Center in King.
