Closer to the Piedmont area, Caldwell County differs from its mountain neighbors in its musical styles. In addition to old time and bluegrass music, this area is also known for its blues traditions. Although there are several documented old time and bluegrass musicians from Caldwell County, such as bluegrass musician and singer Carl Story, most of the music in this area is heavily influenced by blues. Etta Baker, a famous blues singer and musician, was from Caldwell County. Today, musicians like the Harris Brothers are carrying on the blues tradition in their music.
Caldwell JAM offers guitar, blues guitar, fiddle, banjo and mandolin through the school year at the varied locations. They also offer a Summer JAM ending with performances at the Happy Valley Fiddlers Convention
